Man arrested after leading police on drunken tractor chase

CHEBOYGAN CO. -- A man was arrested in Cheboygan county for leading police on a chase while he was drunk driving on a tractor.

On Tuesday evening, a shirtless man was driving his tractor around town while drunk.

Police say Joshua Viau, 35, was driving erratically so they attempted to pull him over. Officers say Viau looked at the patrol cars, continued on a side street, made a u-tun and then attempted to hit the patrol car.

Viau then ran a stop sign, made another u-turn and attempted to hit the patrol car again.

A second officer arrived to help stop the tractor. Viau eventually hit the patrol car in the right front fender as the tractor wheel went up on the patrol car hood and tipped over.

Viau was thrown from the tractor before he tried to fight officers and run away. Police tazed Viau and then took him to McLaren Cheboygan where he was treated and released for minor injuries before being taken to Cheboygan Jain.

Viau was charged with two counts of assaults with a dangerous weapon, once count of resisting and obstructing officers, once count of fleeing and eluding police, and once count of operating while intoxicated.

He is scheduled to be back in court for a pre-trial on July 2.

No officers or members of the public were injured.
