Boy Scouts rescued after canoes flip in 40mph winds

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WKRC) -- Local scouts lived by the scout motto of "be prepared" and it saved their lives.
Troop 990 out of West Chester was at a national Scouting High Adventure Base in northern Minnesota when a fast moving storm caused their canoes to turn over.  The storm caught the boys in 40 mile per hour winds.
Six boys were rescued by a US Fish and Wildlife float plane.  Two others were rescued by boat.

The rescuers said that had the boys not been in good physical shape, been properly trained and not wearing life jackets the ending would have been much different.

Local scout officials said four adults and 10 boys were on the trip.
