Ruling: Sharonville abortion clinic must close

SHARONVILLE, Ohio (WKRC) -- A magistrate has ruled a Sharonville abortion provider must close its doors.

The Ohio Department of Health ordered the Lebanon Road Surgery Center to close earlier this year. The facility does not have a written transfer agreement with a hospital in case of a patient emergency. Monday, magistrate Michael Bachman sided with the Department of Health.

In the past, that rule had been waived because doctors who practiced at the clinic also practiced at local hospitals. A stay issued by a judge had allowed it to remain open. However, that will end on July 10, unless Judge Jerome Metz steps in.

Anti-abortion demonstrators protested outside the courthouse before Monday's hearing. The surgery center can appeal.
