Facility dog eases tension in family court
MARION, Ohio (WKRC) -- There's a new employee at the Marion, Ohio courthouse and he spends most of the day lying around.
His name is Camry. He's a facility dog and his job is to relieve stress at family court. He's is trained to comfort children when they come before the court. Kids can pet Camry while he sits still.
He doesn't move until given a command says handler Kathy Clark, "He can also do a command called "visit." 'Camry visit' where he puts his head right in your lap, and he'll keep it right there as long as I need him to and till I give him the command 'Camry off.' Good boy. 'Sit.' Good boy."
Judges in other Ohio counties will meet Camry at a conference in August. There they can learn about the benefits of a facility dog for their own courtrooms.
