Fire in downtown Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A fire started around midnight in a downtown Cincinnati alley between 6th and 7th streets near Elm street.

The fire started near an air conditioning unit on the fifth floor of a vacant building at 151 W. 7th St.

Officials on the scene said a sprinkler system did activate, but a floor below the fire. The sprinklers did not put out the fire, but did help keep the flames from spreading.

Three alarms were called because of very heavy smoke which affected the visibility of the firefighters. 76 firefighters responded to the call.

Damages have been estimated at $100,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
