Hip-hop church opens in N.C.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (WKRC) -- A pastor at a church in N.C. is holding services that are incorporating hip-hop music into their worship.

Pastor Quinn Rodgers of Generation One wants his church to target younger people and use the music to encourage them to attend church.

"We're trying to reach the un-churched, the de-churched, the folks who have given up on church and are looking for something different," Rodgers told WBTV.

Instead of traditional hymns, the congregation will listen to hip-hop.

"We've taken the hip-hop culture and we've extracted all the negative connotations out of it and we've deposited solid Christian doctrine in there," says Rodgers.

While parishoners were skeptical of the nontraditional music choices at first, they said they left church feeling refreshed.
