Ohio Supreme Court to hear traffic camera appeal

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Debate over traffic cameras usually centers on whether they're aimed at increasing safety or at increasing revenues.

But arguments to be presented before the Ohio Supreme Court Wednesday will focus on whether cities are overstepping their powers.  Justices will hear an appeal by Toledo of a lower court's ruling for a driver who sued over a 2009 camera-generated ticket.

The man's lawsuit said the tickets unconstitutionally bypass the court system and violate due-process rights.  Judges ruled against use of similar cameras in both Elmwood Place and New Miami.
