Black bear spotted in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ohio (Rich Jaffe) -- The black bear that's been roaming around Clermont County appears to have moved into Hamilton County.
He's been spotted in Montgomery. One of our viewers called in and reported seeing the bear on Cooper Road and Zigzag. In a video he too, the bear scurries off into a wooded area as the man drives by. A reverse 911 call went out warning residents the bear was in their area and to move children and pets inside.
The bear has since been spotted crossing a cul de sac in The Winds, about a mile north of that Mongtomery park and about ten miles from the Milford area, where he was the past couple of days.
Wildlife officials are now worried about the circus of people trying to get a glimpse of the black bear. Wildlife officials are concerned all the activity will make him more active. He's apparently moving when he should be sleeping. The biggest causes for concern are that the bear is moving into more populated areas and that he could end up on the interstate.
Experts say enjoy your viewing of the bear if he comes into your area, but leave him alone. Don't chase him, just call wildlife officials so they can monitor his location and progress. They say what's best for the bear is for him to head back east and away from populated areas.
