Bear sightings in Clermont County

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (Rich Jaffe) -- A bear has been spotted several times in Clermont County over the past few days.

The Ohio Division of Wildlife believes the bear may have swum across the Ohio River over the weekend. It was first seen in New Richmond. It's believed the same bear was then seen Monday 5 or 6 times in the Cross Point subdivision. Today, it was spotted in Miami Township, about ten miles away. It's believed to be heading north.

Division of Wildlife officials believe the bear is a young male, maybe 100 pounds. This time of year they tend to look around for their own territory. They say it's a rare opportunity to see one in the area. However, you shouldn't bother it or put food out for it. If you do see it, call the Ohio Division of Wildlife at 1-800-WILDLIFE. If it becomes a problem ODNR will relocate the bear.
