Police go after gun and drug suspects

PRICE HILL, Ohio (Deb Dixon) -- Cincinnati police went after people with guns and those who aren't afraid to use them.

Only Local 12 was there Tuesday when police began knocking on doors on the city's west side.  They were focused on the Price Hill area looking for illegal weapons and guns.

Most of those arrested were linked to gangs such as the Madville, Gangster Disciples, or CPG, named for the streets Chateau, Price and Grand.  Fifteen people were arrested from the CIRV list.  CIRV stands for Cincinnati's Initiative to Reduce Violence.

Arrests were made from a house on Warsaw police said was a drug house.  That's why there was so much trouble inside and outside the multi-family building.

Captain Don Luck of the Cincinnati police said, "At least one of the residents was involved in a shooting this weekend.  Two people shot with an AK47 outside.  Trouble all day long, fights."

One man was arrested for drug trafficking; several others found inside had outstanding warrants.  Teams found their targets at other homes in Price Hill and Fairmount.  Also on 1-75 after a drug buy, a chase and an arrest.

It was all part of a message that police have been planning on sending since January, "When I looked at January and we had six shootings in one of the worst winters in memory, we knew leading into summer we were going to have to send a message," said Captain Gerard.

Captain Gerard said the arrests were of low level gang members and cases on the top level thugs are in the works.
