Health Alert: Foods to help protect your skin

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A new report which summarizes several studies on your skin and the sun says a few nutrients may help work like natural sunscreen in your body.

It is that time of year when you are likely thinking about sunscreen, and you need it most right now between the hours of 10a.m. and 3p.m.  But there's also a few foods you might want to add to your diet  to help protect your skin, according to this report.
 
It starts with strawberries, those are in season right now.  They are also loaded with vitamin C for your skin.  Vitamin E may play a role in skin health as well.  It's found in nuts.  And you also may want to get beta carotene, it's a precursor to vitamin A, found in sweet potatoes and carrots.
 
These are not a substitute for proper skincare and for sunscreen, but are nutrients your body might need.  They may help put a protective layer, kind of  like a sunscreen, under your skin.
