Health Alert: Cancer and Vitamin D

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A basic vitamin could make a big difference in fighting cancer according to a new report.

With more of us living longer to after early diagnosis of cancer, researchers have continued to look into new ways to extend that life.  In this study they found a vitamin might help.

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism looked at vitamin D.  It is often called the sunshine vitamin.  They found cancer patients who had higher levels of vitamin D when they are diagnosed had better survival rates and remained in remission longer,  This was especially true in breast cancer, colon cancer and lymphoma.

This means people may need vitamin D in their diet.  If they are in cancer recovery they might also want to ask their doctor to test vitamin D levels to see if more vitamin D is needed,  This might make a difference in outcome and in total wellness.
