Porn could be bad for your brain
CINCINNATI (Derek Drake) -- A new German study, published in JAMA Psychiatry in May, suggests that watching porn may be linked to reduced activity in certain areas of the brain.
According to the study, men who watch a lot of pornography tend to have less gray matter volume and less activity in the region of the brain linked to "rewards".
The study analyzed a small sample, but provided the first scientific evidence to suggest a link between viewing pornography and brain size.
Although the link is established in the study, it didn't establish whether watching the pornography was the direct cause of the reduction in volume or activity, or whether people born with certain brain characteristics tend to watch more porn.
The study also shows the brain region activated when people view sexual stimuli is less active in men who watch "a lot" of porn.
Sixty-four healthy men from ages 21 to 45 were questioned about their porn watching habits in the study and had their brains study to see how they reacted to pornographic images.
