Teen admits to trying to kill parents and arson

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- A Liberty Township teenager pleads guilty Monday to setting a fire in an effort to kill his parents.

17-year-old Mitchell Simon was set to go on trial Monday on two counts of attempted aggravated murder and a count of aggravated arson, but changed his plea.

Simon poured gasoline in his home. He tied his parents door shot and then set it on fire. His mother was rescued. His father broke his leg jumping from the window.

Simon detailed his plot in logs and journals. He also wrote dark messages about hating his parents on Facebook.

His parents were in court Monday. They refused to comment on the case. The judge lifted all restrictions regarding their visits. Previously Simon's parents had to have their attorney present during visits.

Simon will be sentenced on Wednesday.  He faces up to 33 years in prison.
