New apartments and retail development coming to Northside

NORTHSIDE, Ohio (Paula Toti) -- A new $13 million project was unveiled Tuesday in Northside.

It will be 130 apartments with retail and restaurants on the bottom.  It will sit at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Blue Rock Street.
In the heart of the business district many have long expressed a need for more housing.  Local 12 found many residents also worried that prices might start to increase with all the new projects.
The latest project is called "Gantry."  Community leaders say it's part of the biggest development boon Northside has seen in a hundred years.  Mary Schartman lives and works in Northside.

She is worried she and her friends will no longer be able to afford the area if, "It gets too nice."  She is a barista at a local coffee shop and says she helps bring energy to the neighborhood.
The Northside Community Council says "Gantry" is the latest in a string of positives for the area.  The old Kirby School will soon turn into 40 loft apartments.  The same company recently did Northside's American Can Lofts that sit behind the site where the Gantry will be.  These are market rate (non subsidized) apartments.
Some residents would like to see a grocery store in the area if so many new apartments are coming.  There are flyers around the neighborhood talking about a possible grocery cooperative.
Gantry will begin construction next month with a completion date expected the end of next year.
