Brown County Coroner will remain on the job

BROWN COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) -- A judge has ruled the Brown County Coroner can keep her job.

2300 residents signed a petition trying to get Dr. Judith Varnau removed from the position. There were allegations that Dr. Varnau botched several investigations. She was accused of wiping a dead man's face clean during a death investigation, possibly destroying evidence. She also left the gun with a roommate, who would be a prime suspect if the death turned out to be murder.

There was also a lack of cooperation between Dr. Varnau and the sheriff's department during investigations.

The judge says the some of the allegations amounted to neglect, but not enough to remove her from the position.
