Cradle Cincinnati gets funding to reduce infant mortality
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- There was a big push Thursday to try to save the lives of more babies in the Tri-State. Several health care agencies and communities leaders announced they will invest more than a million dollars in Cradle Cincinnati.
Cradle Cincinnati is a collaborative effort of community leaders and health care agencies to reduce infant mortality. The group wants to do this through education and early prenatal care:
"We are determined to lower infant mortality and eventually... the goal is zero," said Michael Fisher of Children's Hospital.
Several other partnerships were also announced to support Cradle Cincinnati. The main goal is to reduce pre-term births. Especially in Hamilton County, infant mortality rates are higher than the national average for the rest of the country.
