Health Alert: Blood Pressure
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A new summary report of recent research said yet again, diet can make a big difference when it comes to beating high blood pressure.
It was estimated that by the time a person is 60-years-old, two in three people that age will have blood pressure higher than what was recommended. The study said there are three foods that could make a difference.
1. Beets: People may not like these but a study in the Journal Hypertension found those who got more beets showed a drop in blood pressure.
2. Walnuts: It appeared that walnuts were helpful for those who got a handful a day. They were able to lower blood pressure according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition.
3. Flaxseed: This was true for the little seeds that have sort of a nutty flavor. The study was also found in the Journal of Hypertension.
Most often it was suggested people keep their blood pressure below 135 over 85. In some cases doctors may suggest 120 over 70.
