Judge finds Hamilton man guilty of murdering 13-month-old boy

HAMILTON, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- A judge sentenced Dylan Tompkins to 15 years to life for the death of his girlfriend's son.

Judge Michael Sage found Tompkins guilty of murder and child endangering Tuesday during a bench trial.

Tompkins was babysitting 13-month-old Bryce Pelfrey while his mother was at work. Tompkins told police he smacked Bryce on the back and shook him. Bryce died two days later. Before his sentencing, Tompkins apologized for his actions.
During the trial, Children's Hospital doctor, Robert Shapiro, testified that the bruising on the side of Bryce's back were unusual and not typical of bruising from a fall. Shapiro also testified that the child's injuries were not accidental and that Bryce had bleeding on the brain.
The defense did not call any witnesses.
