Health Alert: Lowering blood pressure with food

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A report in Eating Well said not to just give up salt, instead, ask your doctor if you can add in a few foods to help balance blood pressure.

In terms of blood pressure and bringing it down doctors may say stop salt.  That may be a good thing if a person is sodium sensitive.  But a report said you people want to add a few foods that fight high blood pressure.

Experts started with protein, seafood was suggested such as tilapia, and peppers were included such as red peppers with magnesium.  Broccoli was up next with a cup a day giving nutritious calcium and avocado was also on the list.  Avocado is considered a fruit and may bring blood pressure down.  Bananas with their potassium made the list as well.

A person should talk to their doctor if they need to lower blood pressure.  But it probably would not hurt to add a few of these foods as well.
