Health Alert: Lower blood pressure with a spouse

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A new report said a few simple things might bring your blood pressure down and one of them was having a spouse!

There were three simple steps that help drop blood pressure.  They may not be realistic for every person's lifestyle but it was interesting when looking at the simple steps.

The first was activity.  What might surprise a person was how little it took.  As little as 35 minutes a day can bring down blood pressure by 19 percent.

The second was to cut back on meat.  A person didn't have to be a vegetarian but a study from the Journal of the American Medical Association found that people may be able to drop the top number 7 points and the bottom number 5 points if they eat less meat.  This was especially true of saltier meats such as bacon and hot dogs.

Finally, getting married or having a spouse can help drop numbers.  The reason a spouse made a difference had to do with social interaction.  A person can come home from work and unload or talk to a person about their day.  If people don't have this option they can find a friend or someone to support them.
