Firework safety tips for holiday celebrations
CINCINNATI (Perry Schaible) -- Fourth of July goes hand-in-hand with parades, barbecues and of course fireworks.
Injuries that are associated with the pyrotechnic displays are on the rise.
In 2013, there were eight deaths and more than 11,000 injuries nationwide due to fireworks. That number is up significantly from 2012, when there were just over 8,000 injuries.
Doctors say the best way to stay safe is to leave the shows to the experts, but if you're not going to do that this holiday then remember these tips. Children should always be supervised By an adult when using fireworks. Never try to re-light a dud that has not fully function because it could go off later. Keep water handy in case of malfunction.
At Cincinnati Children's Hospital they see a lot of fireworks related injuries this time of the year.
Children under 15 account for 29% of all those injuries.
