Woman removed from murder suspect's arraignment

SOUTH FAIRMOUNT, Ohio (WKRC) -- A suspect in a weekend murder outside a South Fairmount bar, made his first court appearance Wednesday, after getting out of the hospital.

43-year-old Alex Penland was charged with the murder of 36 year-old Damon Cure outside the Golden Nugget Lounge on Queen City Avenue Friday night. He was arraigned Wednesday and a judge ordered him held on a one million dollar bond.

A woman had to be removed from the courtroom, after she yelled than Penland killed her son.
Police said both Penland and Cure were shot during the exchange of gunfire and taken to the hospital. Cure died there.

Penland was immediately identified as the suspect in Cure's murder. During his arraignment, Penland's attorney said the shooting was self-defense after Cure fired the first shot.
