Thief lies to get nearly $5,000 from Greendale Ameristop

GREENDALE, Ind. (WKRC) -- A thief pretends to be related to the owner of a Greendale convenience store, to steal nearly five thousand dollars.

Greendale Police say some called the Ameristop on S.R. 1 and U.S. 50 Monday and said they were the owner. The employee who took the call says she knows the owner and the voice on the phone sounded like him. The caller told the employee to get the money deposit together, and his nephew would pick it up.

Just before 10 p.m. the person claiming to be the owner's nephew arrived and took the deposit bags. The money totaled $4,778.

The picture of the thief is from a security camera. Anyone with information is asked to call the Greendale Police Department at 812-537-1321.
