Local non-profit teaches kids to read in Guatemala

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A local non-profit is helping children in Central America learn to read.

Volunteers with Cooperative for Education are in Guatemala. The group's mission is to help break the cycle of poverty through education.

Its been working in Central America since 1996. "In Guatemala only 2 out of 10 students graduate from high school", says development director Holly End, "but with the support of our programs, we see these kids going on to graduate but get jobs."
Cooperative for Education has 16 volunteers working in Guatemala. They'll be there until Sunday.
