Hot air balloons to fill Middletown skies over the weekend

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (Adam Clements) -- Dozens of hot air balloons will take to the skies this weekend.

People taking part in the the annual Ohio Challenge in Middletown will lift off Friday. Things will kick off in Middletown Friday evening.

It's going to be a wonderful weekend with beautiful skies out there; it will be perfect to take in the scenery with more than 40 balloons filling the skies.

"You can see downtown Cincinnati and you can see downtown Dayton from up there. It's just going to be a beautiful weekend," says Sean Askrin, who has been doing the Ohio Challenge in Middletown for 12 years, 35 years total.

What is it about Middletown that makes it the home of hot air balloons?

"Middletown is located about halfway between Cincinnati and Dayton. We're good with the air spaces. We're good with the land owners. The people are great in Middletown. The area is wide open. It's a great area to fly," explains Askrin.

The Challenge runs all weekend now with festivities like the 5K and 10K, a fireworks show and some skydiving.

The festival will kick off Friday at 4 p.m. and will run through Sunday.
