Police: Downtown violence will not be tolerated

CINCINNATI (Angela Ingram) -- Cincinnati police said they have a plan to deal with violent street crime breaking out in the heart of the city.

Wednesday they named 22-year-old Fonte Williams as the suspect in the murder of Joshua Taylor Monday evening, July 7 near Piatt Park.

That same spot was the scene of related shootings Tuesday night that wounded three people.  The violence, city leaders said, will not be tolerated.  Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said it was important for people to not only feel safe in the city but also coming to the city if they weren't from there.

Tuesday evening a meeting was held at the public library to discuss the violence that lead to the death of Joshua Taylor.  Officials said up until Oktoberfest there will be an increased police presence downtown, especially at the larger events that draw a crowd into the downtown area.
If you have any information on where to find Fonte Williams call Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.  You do not have to give your name.
