Teen accused of smothering a baby said he heard voices

READING, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- A 14-year-old, accused of smothering his infant half-sister to death, apparently said voices in his head told him to do it.

The death of the two-month old baby girl was in Reading, in June.  It happened in the 100 block of East Vine Street.  The father told police the baby went down for a nap while the rest of the family went out to play.  Later, when the mother of the child went in to check on the baby, she found it not breathing.

Paramedics and the mother performed CPR but the baby later died.  Officials said the boy admitted to using a pillow to smother his baby half-sister.  The 14-year-old boy was taken into custody and charged with murder and felonious assault.

A police report said the 14-year-old suffered from psychiatric disorders.  Neighbors Local 12 spoke with said they feel for the family and are absolutely stunned by what happened.

The teen is being held in the Hamilton County juvenile detention center.  A competency evaluation has been ordered. The teen will be back in court July 23.
