Utah attorney general's office asking U.S. Supreme Court to intervene to keep same-sex couples from receiving benefits

SALT LAKE CITY (WKRC) -- The attorney general's office in Utah is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene to keep same-sex couples from getting benefits.

More than 1,000 gay and lesbian couples are in line to receive benefits in 10 days after a federal appeals court delivered a ruling.

These are couples that were able to marry after the state's same-sex marriage ban was overturned, before a hold was put on it.

The larger issue of the marriage ban is still making its way through the courts.
