Man accused of assaulting wife, taking daughter, in court

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A North College Hill man appeared in court on charges he assaulted his estranged wife at her Springdale home and took off with their daughter. Police issued an Amber Alert as a result.

Police were called to the home of Kaelin Hawkins' estranged wife Saturday, after she called to say that he had a knife. She said Hawkins broke into the home, broke her cell phone, dragged her by the hair and assaulted her. She said Hawkins threatened to kill her and their children, as well as himself.

She said she broke free and ran to a neighbor's home, where Hawkins followed her and slammed her face to the ground. He then ran back to her home and police said he grabbed their five-year-old daughter and left.

The little girl was found safe five hours later. Her mother was taken to the hospital.

Hawkins appeared in court on domestic violence, aggravated burglary and other charges. A judge ordered him held on $225,000 bond. Hawkins must wear an electronic monitoring bracelet if he posts bond. A protection order was also filed. Hawkins attorney denied the allegations.
