Teen in court for accidental shooting of friend in Green Twp.

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A 13-year-old boy was in juvenile court Tuesday on charges that he stole a gun and accidentally shot his friend in Green Township.

The boy faced five charges, including reckless homicide, for the shooting death of 13-year-old Hawken Hemmerle at a home on Marie Avenue Monday.  The other charges were theft, carrying a concealed weapon, a curfew violation and being incorrigible.

Prosecutors planned to keep the case in juvenile court, instead of requesting to try the boy in adult court. They did ask that he remain in juvenile detention due to the seriousness of the crime. The teen's public defender asked that he be released to his grandparents. The magistrate agreed with the prosecutor and ordered him to remain in juvenile detention at least until his hearing.
