Fundraiser held for family of boy accidentally shot and killed

CHEVIOT, Ohio (Brad Underwood) -- Members of a local community show up at a local salon and barber shop to show their support for the family of a teenage boy who was shot and killed Monday.

The fundraiser happened at Penny's Barber Salon from 10 to 6 p.m. in Cheviot for 13-year-old Hawken Hemmerle's family.

Money raised will go toward his funeral expenses.

Officers responded to the shooting Monday afternoon in Green Township. It happened shortly after 2 p.m. on the 5500 block of Marie Avenue.

The victim was 13-year-old Hawken who had been shot in the head. He was transported to Mercy West Hospital from the scene where he was pronounced dead.

A 13-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and charged with
reckless homicide and theft of a firearm, both a third degree felony. Police say the boy stole a gun earlier in the day then accidentally fired it at him while they were playing with it.

The he will be in court Wednesday.
