After 45 years, local Vietnam vet gets medals

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- After 45 years, a veteran of the Vietnam War received his combat and bravery medals Tuesday.
Ohio senator Sherrod Brown presented the Purple Heart, bronze star, and several other awards to then-private James Bond, Junior.

Bond was an army medic in 1969, and he refused to leave the battlefield until all of his comrades had been evacuated first.

Bond knew he had earned the Purple Heart for being wounded, but that medal and all the others were delayed by some sort of paperwork problem which has since been resolved. "There is nothing as uplifting and inspiring to me to get the make presentations like this to people who have served our country and have earned all sorts of medals in the army, navy, air force, marines, or coast guard."
