Health Alert: Patient issues billion dollar bucket challenge

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Liz Bonis) -- A mother in Anderson said donate where you wish but let's raise the stakes on this ice bucket challenge.

Shirley Schmelzle talked with Local 12 at her home in Anderson through her friend Pat.  She spoke about a billion dollar bucket challenge,  Shirley was diagnosed with ALS five years ago.  She already defied the odds and even though she can't use her own voice because the neuromuscular disorder attacks the vocal cords, her spirit, attitude and passion to find a cure speaks volumes.

Pat said for Shirley, "I have determined to use the time I have to make a difference."

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014 Shirley's neighborhood completed the ice bucket challenge in her honor.  "Together," they say, "we can keep this challenge going to raise a billion dollars for new research."
