Benefit helps pay for stem cell transplant for local teen

WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) -- Supporters came together for a woman battling a rare disease.

Local 12 News first introduced viewers to Kayla Pounds.  The 22-year-old suffers from a neurological disorder known as "Stiff Person Syndrome."  Her muscles lock up and make it hard to get around.

A stem cell transplant could help her life return to normal. But it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars.  So her father's co-workers at the Hamilton County Communications Center organized a fundraiser for her Saturday, August 9 at the Woodlands in Whitewater Township.
