Audit finds Martinsville employees misspent $61,000

MARTINSVILLE, Ohio (WKRC) -- A state audit released Tuesday tells a story of a Martinsville family illegally running the Clinton County village and misspending tens of thousands of dollars.

Some of the people mentioned in the audit have already been convicted of crimes. State auditor Dave Yost says in 2011 through 2012, the village didn't have any legally elected council members.

Luke Mountjoy served as a legally appointed council member during that time, until elected in 2012. Mountjoy then illegally appointed four others to serve on council, including Carole and Rayetta Robinson, who illegally became council president and Mayor.
According to the audit, the village paid other Robinson family members without proof of work. The audit also says some money was spent on personal items from gasoline to cigarettes.

In all, the audit identified $61,000 in misspent money. Auditor Yost says just the family-tree style of governance was illegal in itself.
