Update on string of convenience store scams

GREENDALE, Ind. (WKRC) -- A flood of tips has police closing in on a suspect in a string of convenience store scams.

A tipster identified the man as Sean Acree, an 18-year-old from Western Hills.

He walked out of the Ameristop in Greendale with nearly $5,000 after police say he scammed a clerk. This was after someone claiming to be the owner called and said his nephew was coming to get the cash.

At least nine stores have now reported being targeted by similar scams, and clerks at four of them have handed over the cash.

Police now believe the string of scams goes back to last summer.

The criminals have hit stores from Tampa, Fla. to Batesville, Ind.
