MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKRC) -- Middletown Police took ten people from two homes into custody, during a drug raid.

Officers also shot a pit bull. Local 12 was the only news crew at the scene for the bust.

Police served warrants at two homes. Seven people were detained from the first home in the 1800 block of Manchester. Officers took an infant and a toddler from the home. The mother was detained after she became very distraught at losing her children.

Two doors down, police served a second warrant. Three people were detained at that home. A brother of one of the suspects in the first home, lived at the second.  Police said they confiscated crack cocaine and heroin during the raids.

There were four pit bulls in the home. According to police, one went right for an officer and the other three became agitated. An officer shot the first pit bull. Investigators used a fire extinguisher to scare the other three off.

Later in the day, the dog that was shot by police was euthanized.

Police have not yet released the names of those arrested or all the charges they'll face. It does appear some of them have been released.

Editor's note: This story was updated with new information regarding the euthanization of the pit bull that was shot by police. An earlier report indicated the dog was receiving treatment for its injuries.
