Tuskagee Airman Pilot honored on 90th birthday

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) -- A member of the famed and historic Tuskagee Airmen will be honored during his birthday Sunday, August 10.

Leslie Edwards will be praised during his 90th birthday at the Northern Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Springfield Township.  The Tuskagee Airmen were the first African Americans to enlist as pilots during World War II in a time when many believed black men lacked intelligence, skill, courage and patriotism.

During the service, Viola Liuzzo will also be commended.  Liuzzo was a Michigan housewife who was shot and killed by the KKK in 1965 as she transported other activists to an airport in Alabama.
Sunday's service was at 10:45a.m.
