Health Alert: College Health 101
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A free program over the weekend at UC Health will invite young women attending college to learn a few things they might not get in traditional classes.
It's a busy time on campus at UC. Orientation for new students is underway and peer counselors in the wellness center said they were getting a lot of questions about a lot of things.
Erica Henry, a student, said, "Definitely nutrition and exercise."
The hookup culture is very high in the college area so a lot of things talked about are the risks that college students encounter and also how to protect themselves with that. The team at UC has put together a program to help answer some of those questions.
The program is called College Health 101 and is for young women who are starting or attending college. It deals with a variety of subjects including sexual health, nutrition and stress; many of the subjects that that college students encounter and might have questions about.
The goal is help students who want to stay well and avoid some of the concerns Erica and Morgan said they had starting college.
"I did gain a little bit of weight. It can be very stressful, so time management is really, really important," said Erica.
Morgan Cummins, also a student, said, "I was alone. I didn't really know many people from high school that were coming to UC. So it was a pretty new environment for me."
College Health 101 is Saturday, August 9 from 1p.m. to 3:30p.m. at the US Women's Health Center in West Chester.
It is free and you can find out more by calling 513-475-UC4U (8248).
