Archdiocese looks to freeze ice bucket challenge

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The Archdiocese of Cincinnati is asking Catholics to stop participating in the 'ice bucket challenge' because it benefits one particular ALS charity.

The challenge has raised millions for research for the ALS association, but the archdiocese says the association uses embryonic stem cell research. That's something the catholic church is firmly against.

In August of 2014, even  Xavier president Father Michael Graham took the challenge.
Instead, it's recommending people donate to an ALS organization that does research on adult stem cells only.
