Madison Twp. woman mauled to death by dog

MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Angenette Levy) -- A Butler County woman has been mauled to death by her dog.

The coroner was called Monday afternoon to 59-year-old Cindy Whisman's home on Eck Road at 1:00 P.M. Before that, a neighbor called 911 to try to get help. The neighbor originally thought Whisman was playing with the dog but it was actually attacking her.  Another neighbor hit the dog with a metal stick but it was too late.

Whisman was visiting relatives when the dog came after her in the back yard.  The dog belonged to her daughter, Julie Whisman.  Julie told Local 12 she believes her dog is a pure bred Pit Bull.  She was in shock about what happened because she said her dog was not mean.

"Never been vicious toward anybody.  Never attacked anybody.  It doesn't sound like something my dog would do," Julie said.

The sheriff's office took two dogs out of the home.  The Butler County coroner will perform an autopsy on Cindy Whisman Tuesday, August 5.
