Edie Magnus to scale down Westin Hotel in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (Adam Clements) -- A lot of our viewers probably remember Edie Magnus from her time here at WKRC back in the 80s.

These days, Edie would prefer you know her for her efforts in helping people fight drug and alcohol addiction.

It's a cause that holds a very special and very tragic place in Edie's heart. She knows the perils of addiction all to well as she lost her brother Billy when he overdosed on cocaine in 2006. Then, last July, her sister Eleanor suffered the same fate.

Edie will have both Billy and Elanor on her mind when she rappels from the top of the Westin in downtown Cincinnati.

It's part of the Shatterproof challenge, helping to raise awareness about the national organization designed to prevent addiction in children.

Edie hopes her efforts will keep other families from going through what she did.

"We stood by helplessly for a lot of years. All the love in the world couldn't stop them from using. All the resources, particularly Elanor who was in high priced facilities for months - All of that did nothing."

Joining Edie down the side of the Westin will be someone who knows exactly how she feels, Her 87-year-old father Bill.

They're set to rappel at 12:30 this afternoon.
