Strike looms for Children Services workers

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- With a strike looming by Butler County Children Services, local children may be at risk. There was a new move Thursday to try and break an impasse.

With a strike set for Monday, both sides in the dispute are still at odds over a new contract. Late Thursday afternoon, the union head told Local 12 a federal mediator has agreed to come in and try to get a deal.

Picket signs will be going up outside Children Services headquarters in Hamilton on Monday. The county said it revised its offer yesterday, but never heard back from the union. Earlier this week, Butler County had a job fair, during which it took applications from people hoping to land one of the 20 permanent and 40 temporary positions.

The issues have been pay and an increased work load due to job turnover. The union says the new hires will help, but social workers haven't had a raise in four years.
