Boy credited with saving another child from drowning

WESTWOOD, Ohio (WKRC) -- A young boy was credited with saving another child at a neighborhood pool.
Emergency workers were called to a pool at the Montana Valley Apartments on Montana Avenue in Westwood about 2:30p.m. Sunday afternoon, August 24th, 2014.  Some children were playing in the water when a 7-year-old said he saw a teenager not moving at the bottom of the pool.  The boy told his father, who dove into the water to rescue the teen.

Vincent Gates, who rescued the swimmer, said, "When I went under and saw him, he was at the bottom like this.  I pulled him up, took him to the edge of the pool.  I listened to his heart, he wasn't breathing, so I gave him three breaths and on the third breath he took a breath."

The victim was taken to Children's Hospital.  Gates was a football coach, one reason he was trained in CPR.  He said he was proud of his son for coming to the aid of the other boy.
