Memorial for slain mom one year after unsolved murder

BROWN COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) -- The Dodson family's frustration lies with the investigation. Not that Brown County detectives haven't exhausted every clue and every lead, but at this point they still don't know who killed Brittany Stykes.

There's video of Brittany driving her husband Shane's yellow Jeep Wrangler along Route 68 in Ripley just minutes before her death.

Brittany was ambushed as she drove. She was shot and killed as she sat in the driver's seat.

Her then 14-month old daughter Aubree was also shot, taking a bullet to her head. She survived.

Brittany was pregnant at the time and the child she was carrying also died.

For Brittany's father David, this all still feels like a horrible dream, and he's just waiting to wake up.

"There's mornings you can wake up, before you're fully awake, and I still wait for my phone to go off," said David Dodson. "Because she texted me or Mary every morning, 'Hey, what are we doing today?' So there are mornings you just lay there and wait for your phone to go off, and it doesn't happen."

Investigators said they're still following up on every lead.

The don't believe this was a random act, but, detectives also said they do not believe that Brittany Stykes was the intended target.

If you have any information that might help investigators solve the murder of Brittany Stykes, call Crimestoppers. That number is (513) 352-3040.
