Local man reunited with daughter after Delta mistake

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A local man and his 7-year-old daughter were reunited Thursday, August 21st, 2014, after a week and a half of doubt and fear.

On august 11th, Kiante Butler put his daughter on a Delta jet bound for Houston.

Because she was flying as an unaccompanied minor, Butler arranged for a family member to pick the girl up in Houston.

That person tried but was told by Delta airlines that the girl had already been picked up.

It took 24 hours for Butler to find out by whom.

It was the little girl's mother, who was out of prison on parole and under a court order to stay away from the girl.

Kiante Butler had not been informed the woman had been released.

It took a week and media exposure in Houston to locate mother and daughter and put the girl back into her father's custody.

The pair are expected to return to Cincinnati next week.

Delta says it's reviewing its procedures.

The district attorney in Houston has not yet decided whether the mother should face criminal charges.
