Student makes $40 prosthetic hand

PORTLAND, Ore. (WKRC) -- A Portland Oregon college student made a prosthetic hand that's affordable.

All it takes is some duct tape, velcro, string, a mouse pad and plastic.

Jordan Nickerson was born without a left hand.

Prosthetics can be outrageously expensive. So, he decided to make his own.

He used $40 worth of materials and a 3D printer to make this fully functional plastic hand.

"The number one issue is they don't have them because they can't afford them," said Nickerson. "This is going to completely annihilate that because now if you can buy an X-box you can buy this."

Nickerson plans to use this hand to market affordable prosthetics.

Customers would send in measurements that would be printed on 3D machines and shipped for about $300.
