Judge rules abortion clinic should close

SHARONVILLE, Ohio (Sydney Benter) -- Lawyers for a local abortion clinic only have a few days to appeal a judge's ruling that would shut it down for good.

Protestors camped out at the Hamilton County Courthouse waiting for Friday's decision. State Health Officials want the Lebanon Road Surgery Center in Sharonville to close because it doesn't have a transfer agreement with a local hospital.

A judge ruled that he can't change the Ohio Department of Health director's decision.

Abortion opponents are pleased with the ruling. "The fact is they want to be considered medical facilities on par with any other medical facility. [If] this is medical to them, they need to meet those standards to do that. They're not doing that," says Mark Harrington of Created Equal who was demonstrating at the courthouse Friday.

Local 12 talked to the clinic's lawyer Friday, August 15th, 2014. She calls the decision a disappointment and says they're weighing their legal options.

Earlier this week the clinic filed a second lawsuit asking that the health department director reconsider its decision to close the facility.
