Prosecutor named in deadly officer involved shooting at Wal-Mart

FAIRFIELD, Ohio (WKRC) -- A special prosecutor from Cincinnati will lead the investigation into a deadly police-shooting near Dayton.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has appointed Hamilton County assistant prosecutor Mark Piepmeier.  John Crawford of Fairfield was shot in a Wal-Mart in Beavercreek in early August.
Police said Crawford ignored their orders to put down an air rifle he was holding.  Family members have called for the release of store surveillance video.  They also want the justice department to lead the investigation.

Crawford family attorney, Michael Wright, said, "The best way to satisfy the public of the most recent chapter of unjust and unnecessary killings is transparency.  Let the public see the tapes and have the attorney general refer this case to the federal authorities."

Crawford's family has seen some of the video and their attorney said it appears he did not have an opportunity to put the gun down.  Officials said the video was part of their investigation and won't be released publicly.
